For 30 years, Nordens Ark has worked to save endangered species. The job is as important today as when we started. Many of the world’s animals are threatened and going extinct at an alarming rate. More than half of all turtles are endangered, and there are only about 50 Amur leopards left in the wild. If pollinating insects die out, we humans face unimagined consequences.
But there is hope.
Thanks to our long and arduous work, Peregrine falcons have been preserved in our country. Nordens Ark raised 214 falcon chicks that were later released into the wild, with fantastic results. Today the species is saved! Nordens Ark also works globally. Together with local conservationists, we have been working since 2011 to increase the number of wild Amur tigers in the Russian Far East. Now there are 16 adult tigers in the region, a threefold increase since the beginning.
Saving endangered species requires time, patience, and ingenuity. Our animal caretakers have developed unique methods for raising butterflies and beetles that have been released into the wild.
We are going to celebrate, of course – the hope and work that has been and is being done for endangered species
