World Wetlands Day
Today we celebrate World Wetlands Day
Did you know that wetlands are among the most species-rich environments in the world and invaluable for biodiversity?
They contribute to a variety of ecosystem services on which we all depend. Among other things they act as nutrient traps and carbon sinks, they contribute to groundwater formation and provide more stable water flows. Some also serve as nursery for fish and as habitat for lots of birds and dragonflies. But they are threatened and we need to make efforts to restore them and preserve the species that live in them.
Nordens Ark works actively species like white stork, white-naped crane and red-crowned crane, whom all depend on the wetlands for their survival.
