Luristan newt
Neurergus kaiseriThe Luristan newt, also called Kaiser's newt, lives in small streams in the Zargos mountains in Iran. The biggest threat is fragmentation of the populations, i.e. that the areas where they live are getting smaller and more isolated from each other.
Please note that this species cannot currently be seen in the public part of the park.

In summer when the streams dry out the newts are known to aestivate, which means that they become inactive and stop feeding in response to warm temperatures.
