This turtle thrives in humid environments, and never goes very far from a water source of any kind. The species can also burrow into moist soil for long periods. During the dry season, it can hide in leaf clusters and lie inactive for up to two months.
The female builds a nest from material she finds on the ground and lays 30-50 eggs. The eggs are covered with leaves, and the female defends the nest from predators, hatching within 60 - 90 days.
Much is still unknown about the species' behavior and way of life in the wild.
