Indochinese box turtle

Cuora galbinifrons

The Indochinese box turtle has a tall arched shell that is beautiful chestnut brown with varying patterns in black, yellow or orange. The abdominal plate is usually black.

Vikt: 1 kg
Längd: 15-20 cm
Although the Indochinese box turtle is mainly terrestrial, it is a relatively good swimmer. It thrives in slightly cooler, moist forests where it lives hidden among the ground vegetation.
The turtle reaches sexual maturity at the ripe age of 10-15 and produces only 1-3 eggs per year.
Very little is still known about the species' life in the wild. What is known about food, reproduction and growth comes from observations of individuals in captivity. Due to its beautiful shell and special appearance, the species is highly sought after in the illegal pet market.
