The Gute sheep

Both rams and ewes have slightly twisted and inverted horns, with strong rifling and distinct ‘growth rings’. Rams’ horns are big and strong while the ewes’ are more slender and delicate.

Weight: 45-100 kg
Withers height: 70 cm

Unlike other breeds, which need to be sheared twice a year, the Gute sheep’s wool falls off by itself. However, it’s still customary to shear them.

As with other native sheep, the Gute is hardy and well adapted to living outside throughout the year, provided it has access to shelter from the wind and rain.

The Gute sheep produces tasty meat and a durable fleece with good insulating and thermal properties. Colours span the grey scale to very dark grey and black-grey, while entirely black and entirely white are less common.
