Tabacktorp sheep

The Tabacktorp sheep originates from the farm Tabacktorp in Västansjö, near Ekshärad in Värmland. These sheep are alert and wary of strangers but tame with their owners.

Weight: cirka 30 kg
Height: cirka 60 cm

The breed is small and typically white, with a distinctive facial profile. Most are polled, but some rams have horns. They have a short, wool-free tail, small ears, and often a slight forelock. Occasionally, black individuals can occur. They usually give birth to a single lamb.

Tabacktorp sheep were only "discovered" as recently as 2012, and in 2014, the Swedish Heritage Sheep Association established a gene bank for the breed. These sheep had ‘always existed’ on the farm, without deliberate selection for specific traits or appearances.

There are currently only a few herds of Tabacktorp sheep in Sweden, and more are needed. If you are interested in keeping Tabacktorp sheep and contributing to the conservation of the breed, you can contact the association for assistance.
