Live from the tiger den

In late October, our Amur tiger female gave birth to a long-awaited cub.

The Amur tigers on Nordens Ark are both quite old and with age the probability of successful reproductions decreases. Both the female and the male are genetically valuable and it is therefore very good news that they had cubs together. Both have had cubs several times before, but but with other partners.

Predatory cubs are born relatively undeveloped with eye and ear openings closed and this also applies to the amur tiger cub. It will spend the first time in the den eating, sleeping and growing. It will be a while before the cub starts to explore the enclosure. But even then, it will go back into the safe of the den to sleep, rest, play in the bedding and eat.
